The focus of this course is on speaking and understanding useful Pilipino. The audio programs use Pilipino, Tagalog, and Filipino interchangeably. The course is divided into five units covering the following topics: getting to know you, getting around, at the restaurant, shopping, and getting help. Each unit is divided into two to three lessons. The learning activities for most units are: conversations, notes on the conversations, exercises, and a self-evaluation quiz. The cultural notes include information on: geography, climate, history, food, and restaurants, sightseeing, shopping, and currency.

The course assumes the student has no prior knowledge of Pilipino / Tagalog and is fully self-instructional. This means that while an instructor/native speaker would be helpful, it is not imperative to learn Pilipino / Tagalog with this course. There are 13 CDs and a textbook or 1 DVD with all lessons on MP3 with the textbook in a PDF file format.
